Barbie - Jewellery * Film * Moments

What was I made for? Jewellery * film * Moments

I have been invited to participate in the Exhibition Jewellery * Film * Moments.

The exhibition is curated by Nina Hald and is a collaboration with Nordisk Film cinemas. Cinema guests in Frederiksberg, Viborg and Odense can look forward to an extraordinary experience this spring. We are 40 jewellery designers and goldsmiths and silversmiths who have created a piece of jewellery inspired by a movie.

I have called my piece ‘What was I made for?’ and the film I have been inspired by is the wonderful film ‘Barbie’.

My thoughts behind my piece are:

Barbie is classically elegant, beautiful, and undeniably popular, there’s no denying that. But why was Barbie created? To show little girls around the world that they can be anything they want? or to show them that this is how you must look to be perfect? And – is it only black (hmm pink) or white?

Isn’t the dream for girls to have a ‘Barbie-faith’ and knowing they are perfect in their very own Birkenstock (real life) way?

I have made a set of earrings where the top is the classic Birkenstock buckle made of silver, and the pink ‘pearls’ are make-up sponges: life in plastic – it’s fantastic.

The exhibition can be seen in the hall in:

– Falkoner Bio in Frederiksberg from 1 March to 29 March 2024

– Viborg Fotorama from 1 April to 28 April 2024

– Nordisk Film Cinemas Odense from 1 May to 30 May 2024.
